Emotional Freedom Techniques for Anxiety

Emotional Freedom Techniques (EFT) – also known as “Tapping” – focuses on tapping on specific meridian points to release and transform energetic blockages that are contributing to physical and emotional challenges. Introduced by Gary Craig in the early 90’s, EFT has been found to help alleviate different symptoms – such as back pain or stomach pain, anxiety or phobia, etc. – and shift stuck patterns – such as procrastination, de-motivation, emotional eating, etc.

Nora is certified in EFT level 2. After being trained in EMDR, Nora pursued the EFT training. While they do have their differences, she did find that the exposure therapy aspect of the approaches were quite similar. EFT seemed to integrate along with exposure therapy, acceptance affirmations and meridian point stimulation (similar to acupuncture but without needles), both of which were shown to be helpful in alleviating different symptoms. Nora became inspired to offer this technique to her clients because of the integration of these three components and the ease with which clients could learn the protocol and become empowered to use it on their own.

How Is Emotional Freedom Techniques Therapy Performed?

EFT or tapping was introduced by Gary with the idea that it be simple and available for everyone. When first starting to use it, or when working with more complex issues or persistent patterns, it can be helpful to work with a trained and certified EFT therapist. The therapist will guide the client in identifying specific areas of distress, emotions or memories that are causing difficulties. Once these have been identified, the therapist will help the client tap on specific meridian points while focusing on the issue at hand.
